A space to listen differently
Psychoanalytic therapy and counselling in Sydney

Psychoanalytic Therapy & Counselling in Sydney | The Underthought
There are moments when speaking becomes necessary, even if you are not sure why yet. This may come in times of anxiety, low mood, loss, relationship difficulties, or a quiet sense of unease.
Sometimes what brings someone to therapy is not simply a problem to be solved, but a sense that something is repeating, unsettled, unresolved, or quietly asking for attention. You might find yourself sensing this without yet knowing how to name it. In psychoanalysis, you do not need to know in advance what to say or where to begin.
At the Underthought, I offer psychoanalytic therapy and counselling in Sydney and online across Australia. My practice offers a place to speak and to be heard without pressure, diagnosis, or haste, including when you are feeling anxious, low, or overwhelmed.
You might consider this work if you find yourself…
- Sensing that something in your life keeps repeating, even when you try to change it
- Feeling unsettled, conflicted, or unsure how to put your experience into words
- Wanting a space to speak freely, without being directed toward quick solutions or evaluation
- Curious to understand yourself beyond symptoms or labels
If you wish, you can continue below to learn more about how this work unfolds.

Listening in Psychoanalysis
This work begins with listening to what you say and how you say it. Pauses, patterns, and slips in speech trace the logic of desire and shape how you live and relate to others. In the search to understand yourself, you may encounter something of the truth that speaks through you.
Psychoanalysis begins with what each person brings in their own words.
You do not need to know where to begin.
An Invitation to Begin Therapy
If you are considering therapy, you are welcome to begin with a first meeting.
A first meeting (50 minutes) is offered without fee.
This offers an opportunity to experience the therapeutic space, ask questions, and consider whether this way of working feels right for you.
You are welcome to get in touch to arrange an initial meeting or ask any questions.

A Therapeutic Space for Speaking and Listening
This practice offers a confidential space to speak freely, without pressure to conform or present yourself in a particular way. Guided by respect and attention to difference, the work is grounded in listening to what is said, and to what is not always easy to say.
The aim is not to provide ready-made answers, but to sustain a process that honours each person’s experience, allowing what is already there in their speech to be heard in a new way.
